“Introducing SoberWoman!
Anti-DUI Superheroine Hits Dupont Circle’s Happy Hour Scene to Stop Drunk Driving Before It Starts
WHAT: SoberWoman, the finest anti-drunk driving crime-fighter ever to wear tights, will be deployed tomorrow night to stop drunk driving before it starts. Created by the anti-drunk driving campaign Checkpoint Strikeforce to educate the public, SoberWoman will be joined in her mission by DC’s Metropolitan Police Department.
SoberWoman will engage the partying masses at four Dupont Circle bars where she’ll quiz them on their plans to get home after drinking. The raven-haired superheroine will award prizes to those who demonstrate they’ve made advance plans to get home safely. She’ll also warn “the plan-less” that police are stepping up their efforts to catch and arrest drunk drivers. SoberWoman will pose for pictures and encourage bar-goers to share photos and her mission via social media, using hashtag #SoberWoman. SoberWoman’s future missions later this month will take her to other bar districts in the greater Washington, D.C. region.
A recent poll showed that nearly one-third of 21-to-35-year-old males do not make advance plans to avoid drinking and driving BEFORE they go out. With the holiday season now heating up, now is the time for stepped up vigilance against drunk driving.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!
The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!
What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
