“Updated information on the Barry funeral arrangements, including viewing hours & street closures:

Please note the following updated information regarding the funeral arrangements for Marion Barry:

The body will lie in state for public viewing in the first floor lobby of the John A. Wilson Building (1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW) on Thursday from 9AM to midnight, and Friday from 6AM to 9AM.
Pennsylvania Avenue, NW will be entirely closed between 12th Street and 14th Street from 4AM on Thursday to 10:30AM on Friday. Expect traffic delays.
Those paying respects and attending the public viewing are encouraged to use public transportation. The Metro Center and Federal Triangle Metro stations are located nearby. Many Metrobus lines, as well as Circulator lines, pass nearby.
Large crowds are expected at all funeral events, including the public viewing. Please expect long lines.”

Temporary Road Closures and Parking Restrictions

During this event, you may expect intermittent temporary road closures outside of and/or near the Convention Center without advance notice. L Street will be temporarily closed to vehicular traffic between 7th and 9th streets on Saturday, December 6th from 5:00 am until 4:00 pm. To the extent possible and aside from possible intermittent closures, there will be no disruption to traffic circulation on 7th or 9th streets.

Parking restrictions will be in place outside of the Convention Center on the west side of 7th and east side of 9th streets NW between L and M Street. Additionally, parking will be restricted on the north side of the 900 block of K Street, NW (between 9th and 10th streets). On Saturday, December 6th, there will be No Parking in these locations from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
