3/10: A DC Tribute to The Notorious B.I.G. with Lil’ Cease of Junior M.A.F.I.A. and Asheru

“March 9th will mark the 17th anniversary of the death of The Notorious B.I.G, one of the most influential artists in 90’s hip-hop and who Rolling Stone called the “greatest rapper that ever lived”. The following evening, DC based alternative hip hop band All The Best Kids will take the Howard Theatre stage with Asheru and more than 25 of the DMV’s­ best MCs & vocalists to pay tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. with their own styles, rooted in DC rock/funk and East Coast hip hop. Notorious B.I.G.’s protege Lil’ Cease of Junior M.A.F.I.A. is also slated to host the event.

Who:

· Lil’ Cease: rapper and member of Platinum selling hip-hop group Junior M.A.F.I.A.
· Asheru: Peabody award-winning artist, educator, and youth activist. Also known as the artist behind the opening and closing themes for the popular TV series, The Boondocks.
· All The Best Kids: A DC-based alternative hip hop band.
· More than 25 of the DMV’s best vocalists & rappers, including Deborah Bond, Flex Matthews, Tara Trinity, King Kanja, & Uptown XO of Diamond District

What: All The Best Kids will be doing live recreations of Biggie’s greatest hits, including Big Poppa, Juicy, Hypnotize, Get Money, and many more, while more than 25 rappers and vocalists take the stage for a one of a kind tribute performance. Also featuring full performances by Asheru & All the Best Kids. Tickets are $15.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
