From a press release:

“Jeff Black, Chef/Owner of Black Restaurant Group and Chef/Partner Danny Wells have begun offering weekend brunch service at their Takoma Park restaurant, Republic.

The menu, available here, starts with ‘cures for your ailments’ including a charred tomato Bloody Mary, a collaboration between bar manager Brett Robison and Chef Danny Wells. After lamenting the dearth of flavorful tomatoes in the winter, the two decided to experiment with grilling the tomatoes on the wood-burning grill in the kitchen, and ended up with a smoky, charred, flavorful tomato to puree and serve as their bloody mary base. House-made arbol and guajillo pepper chili paste, fresh lime and lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, and house-made celery salt round out the bloody mary ($10), which is traditionally served with vodka. The addition of Old Bay spiced Chesapeake shrimp takes it up a notch to make a Rena Maria ($12). A Bloody Maria ($10) with tequila can also be enjoyed, along with Mimosas and bellinis, which are available for $7 with fresh squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, and peach or mango puree. For those looking for a cocktail, The Localist, made with Green Hat gin, BeeGeorge local honey, lemon juice, and a citrus flame ($11) makes for a restorative start to the day.

Food highlights include a bevy of house-made baked goods like monkey bread ($5), beignets ($5), a rotating house-made muffin with flavors like orange, cranberry & poppy seed and cinnamon toast muffins ($5) and a homemade buttermilk biscuit with scrambled eggs and cheddar ($9); comfort dishes such as brioche French toast with Black Rock Orchard pear compote ($11); local seafood turns up on a Chesapeake oyster po’boy, and poached farm eggs abound with various accompaniments such as barbeque butter-poached Gulf shrimp and herb toast ($14) and slow braised pork belly with spicy black beans and avocado ($15).

Baristas on duty can whip up coffee and espresso drinks featuring a direct trade blend, Brazil Daterra, from Annapolis, Md.-based Ceremony Coffee Roasters.

Brunch is available Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The full menu is below and available here:

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
