From MPD:

“The First District has seen an increase in package thefts the past few years around the holiday season. First District Officers are aware of the historic trend and are giving special attention to residential areas. Within this past week, we have made three arrests of individuals regarding separate package thefts. In two of these incidents, the Officers were initially alerted by concerned neighbors who called 911 to report suspicious activity. I would like to thank the citizens who reported the activity and request the assistance of the entire community in being vigilant and reporting to 911 anytime they observe suspicious activity or persons. In each of the below incidents, the stolen property was also recovered.

· On Friday November 29th, at about 6:45 pm, a 19 year old male was arrested for a package theft from the 200 block of 11th Street SE

· On Saturday November 30th, at about 9:30 am, a 50 year old was arrested for the theft of a package from the 600 block of A Street SE

· On Thursday December 5th, at about 7:30 pm, a 25 year old male was arrested for the theft of a package from the 1200 block of Independence Ave SE

In addition to your vigilance, we also like to ask that you consider having packages delivered to an alternate site (work place or friend’s home) where someone would be present to accept delivery.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
