“Dear PoPville,
So, recently I had one of those “remember when…” situations and I went back to DCUM (DC Urban Moms), a free-for-all circus where you can discuss gender, school choice and real estate all under the joy of COMPLETE anonymity.
I admit i loved it in the 2010s when i was pregnant, at home and looking for TONS of local info about babies, activities and schools. Fine… I went back the other day and I was a bit shocked how crazy it has gotten. (It was always nutty…)
Is the website still active?
Someone (the only poster with a name, it seems) rants about Tr*mp on the front page.
I know it’s one of those things we should all ignore and move on but… c’mon! it used to be HUGE in between Craigslist’s creepy death and Reddit. It was local, it was OURS… what happened?
Anyone has any story to share about this?”
Ed. Note: I can’t speak to them exactly but I can give a little insight into commenting communities in general. In addition to reddit, with the rise of multiple social media outlets, people often prefer to comment directly at their preferred site. For example, whenever a post gets published on PoPville I am also publishing it on Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, BlueSky and Threads. When the algorithm is cooperating and people actually see the posts that is where the majority of the people comment and/or react to posts these days (with the exception of our rant/revel posts, obviously…)
