“Lime Offering Free Rides to and from Polling Place for Early Voting and Election Day”

From Lime:

“Lime, a leading global shared electric vehicle company, is bringing back its popular Lime to the Polls program in Washington DC for the 2026 midterm elections. Lime to the Polls has been a staple of LIme’s service in the District for years, making it easier for residents to participate in democracy. This year the program will help voters participate in the 2026 elections by offering two free 30-minute rides on Lime vehicles starting October 24, through Election Day on November 3. Through Lime to the Polls, riders in participating Lime-served communities can use promo code VOTE26 from October 24 through November 3, 2026 to help get to and from their polling place, early voting site, or ballot drop box, where applicable.

“Lime is proud to be a part of the daily lives of so many DC residents and we see Lime to the Polls as one of our most important ways to give back to the city we serve. Lime to the Polls helps break down barriers to democratic participation by ensuring all District residents are able to get around the city affordably during early voting and through the election. Here in D.C. we also take special care to ensure our services are available to residents who have traditionally been underserved by public benefits, including transportation, especially east of the Anacostia River. We hope those who need help getting around the most benefit from programs like this one,” said Erika Duthely, Regional Head of Government Relations at Lime.

“Transportation should never stand between someone and their ability to participate in democracy,” said Emily Salazar, Leader in Social Impact and Advocacy at Lime. “Through Lime to the Polls, we are helping make it easier for people to access the information and transportation options they need to make a plan and take part in the election.”

Lime to the Polls is another way Lime works to give back to the communities it serves. The initiative returns amidst Lime’s ongoing Keeping DC Moving plan, which the company launched in September to improve its service for all DC residents. Lime is committed to continually improving its service in DC, building on the success of the city’s shared micromobility program on everything from community engagement to hi-tech solutions to sidewalk riding and proper parking.

Lime’s five-point Keeping DC Moving Plan (online here) includes:

  1. New vehicles: a full fleet refresh, including the introduction of Lime’s newest vehicle, the LimeBike, designed for a wider range of riders

  2. Cutting Edge Innovation: state-of-the-art tech to improve parking, encourage safer riding, and curb illegal and irresponsible riding–including underage riding

  3. Delivering Operational Excellence: Investment in staffing, Foot Patrol and vehicle maintenance for improved reliability

  4. Opening Up DC for All: Growing the Lime Access program and providing an equitable deployment of vehicles across the district

  5. Championing Our Communities: strong community engagement to foster deeper local partnerships and initiatives

This year, Lime is expanding the campaign through an exclusive partnership with HeadCount, a nonpartisan nonprofit that works to register voters and encourage participation in democracy through music, culture, campuses, and community events. Through the partnership, Lime is connecting riders with HeadCount’s voter registration tools and information resources through the Lime x HeadCount Voter Information Hub.

“Every eligible voter should have a fair shot at making their voice heard, and transportation should not stand in the way,” said Lucille Wenegieme, Executive Director at HeadCount. “By connecting voters with trusted information and free rides, this partnership helps make civic participation more accessible, especially for communities that face logistical barriers to getting to the polls.”

Lime came up with Lime to the polls in the United States in 2018 and brought it back again in 2020 due to popular demand. The response from riders was enthusiastic, with the Lime community using the Lime to the Polls promotion code for 20% of all US trips on Election Day 2020. Lime doubled down on its commitment to helping people vote in 2021 and then aimed to increase the size and scope of the program at every opportunity, including in the midterm elections across the country in 2022, all federal elections in 2024, and dozens of state and municipal elections in the off years. Lime has also taken Lime to the Polls global, bringing the initiative to Canada, Europe, and Australia, encouraging democratic participation across multiple continents.
