Wanted to flag that a mockingbird has nested in the dog run at Bruce Monroe Park (3012 Georgia Ave, NW.) It is attacking dogs and people that get close. It will get very close to you and dive bomb to peck your dog’s butt. It will also attack humans by pecking their heads.
Mockingbirds are very aggressive and very smart and will relentlessly follow you to attack if you go near their nests. People should be very careful. Also they are a protected species so you can’t have them removed.
Thought it was worth flagging because lots of us and our dogs love and use that park. The tennis court is still safe but you cannot go near dog run or community garden right now. This will probably last through July.
