DC Water

Not Just Pepco, “Water prices also spike in DC – already paid almost $2000 dollars in 2026”

“Dear PoPville,

I can confirm that prices have suddenly skyrocketed 2x-5x. I have already paid almost $2000 dollars in 2026. At the pace I’m going (see attached), I’ll be looking at $10,000 this year.

I live alone and pay $250-$350 a month since October 2025,

where I previously paid about $150 a month with three people at the same house. The more I pay, the more charges appear. When I dispute, they don’t even come out to look. They just send a form letter back saying nothing’s wrong. There are no leaks. They will not respond to emails asking for clarification on bills.

The billing never makes sense (see below They claim that my current bill is both past due for $29.95, but also that there’s a credit for that amount. The total bill with past due charges is $296.43. However, the total bill amount for current charges adds up to $296.43.

So is there a past due amount of $29.95 or not? I can only assume they are using this tactic to disconnect water accounts and gain additional late fees, disconnection, and reconnection fees from DC residents.

Later in the bill, it says I owe $266.48 in “current charges”, but that amount is the actual current charges minus $29.95. So did I actually finally manage to pay so much that I got a $29.95 credit? Apparently not. The website demands $296.43.

Frankly, the payment amounts they state on bills never line up with what’s been paid or what’s in the ledger on their website. I have been a formal whistleblower twice — in my experience, when books are this sloppy, it is to obfuscate the flow of money.

Council should evaluate whether there are new leaks at DC Water.”
