“India’s most colorful holiday, the Holi Festival, known as the Festival of Colors, which welcomes the season of spring, will be celebrated on Saturday March 7 at Dupont Circle Park from noon until 4 p.m. The event is hosted by the Dupont Circle BID in collaboration with the Embassy of India. The festivities will conclude with a traditional powder throwing event at which participants toss colored powder, called gulal, and water at one another to celebrate love, joy, and the victory of good over evil.
Festivities begin in Dupont Circle Park with upbeat Indian music spun by DJ Pandu, followed by Indian cultural dancing including young dancers from Vienna, Virginia’s Studio Dhoom. The Indian Embassy will provide masala chai and traditional sweets to fuel the festivities.
“We are so excited to be partnering once again with the Indian Embassy to expand this incredibly popular festival – now in its fourth year,” said Patrick Kain, chair of the Dupont Circle BID. “Dupont Circle is a unique neighborhood with 40 embassies, and we are glad to feature India.”
