Ivy and Coney’s Annual Hanukkah Bar Pop-Up, “Chai-vy & Cohen-y”, Returns Monday!!

From the legends at Ivy and Coney (1537 7th Street, NW):

“Ivy and Coney, the preferred dive bar of 4 out of 5 shickers (and the one your Bubbe explicitly warned you about), is overjoyed to celebrate Hanukkah with all of you again!

Beginning Monday, December 1st through the end of the month, the Manischewitz shall flow, the dreidels shall spin, and fun will be had by most. Mercifully, Hanukkah arrives fashionably late this year (starting 12/14), giving us a solid two weeks to pregame and mentally prepare for the miracle of oil lasting eight days (or the miracle of us lasting eight shots). The year 5785 was a real megillah, so let’s toast to 5786 being slightly less of a dumpster fire!

To properly honor the most dangerous of holidays and the only one where you get to play with open flames while consuming high-proof alcohol, we’ve got delicious latkes, sufgani-shots (jelly donuts in shot form, for health), and Manischewitz. Latkes, arguably the most important culinary creation since Moses brought (all beef) hot dogs down from the mountain, will be cooked by the hundreds. We will cater to both Team Apple sauce and Team Sour cream with gallon jugs of school cafeteria apple sauce (the best kind) and Daisy’s finest for the lactose-tolerant.

Each night we will be lighting the Hanukiyah at approximately 7:00 PM (December 14th through December 21st) and invite our guests to participate. Who knows, you may even find a present in your hands at the end of the night (spoiler: it’s probably chocolate gelt).

This year we’ll be donating all proceeds from the sale of kosher wine to Bread for the City. In a world that continues to be meshuga, we hope everyone will join us in throwing down some serious gelt to support their vital work helping those in need in DC. Drink wine, do good—it’s a mitzvah.

Most importantly, we will be unleashing the Golem of Good Times on our DC mishpocheh in the form of our state-of-the-art Shotnorah. Our new and improved Model 2.0 is designed for the enjoyment of eight guests at a time. The bartender will act as your shamash, pouring revelers a choice of libations on the “shotski.” No kvetching about stains on your clothes will be allowed.

What more can we say? Let’s make like a menorah and get lit!
