“Dear PoPville,
We danced early in the night at the Baila Social Dance at La Cosecha on 7/10. You had dark hair, and were wearing a black sundress with a red and green floral pattern on it.
I was the dark-haired guy with a beard, wearing a brown button-through sweater polo and cream shorts.
You were forgiving of the fact that I was a complete beginner, and said that it was okay since you were new to it yourself. You joked about how we were the smart ones dressing for how hot it was on the dancefloor. While we were dancing, you said your name was ‘Raj.’ I didn’t think it was the right time to ask for your number, but I should have said that I wanted to keep dancing with you. I was hoping to be able to find you later in the night, however by the time I worked up the nerve you had already left.
If you see this, I’d love to grab a coffee or a drink sometime.
J.”

“Dear PoPville,
Monday afternoon, north of Malcolm X/Meridian Hill Park:
You were sifting through one of the two big bags of books that someone had left under the Little Free Library on 15th Street. I joined you and started rooting through the other bag.
We bonded over what kind of sick person had donated these books. There was a Journal of Ayn Rand Studies, which horrified both of us, because first, who even knew that was a thing, and second, because you mentioned you were recently “RIF’ed,” and I still work for the government (as of press time, knock on wood, haha).
I didn’t want to risk ruining a perfectly good random conversation with a stranger by betraying an interest in something other than books, but in hindsight, I definitely should’ve risked it and asked for your number. I’m sure Ayn Rand would’ve, hahaha.”
