“Hopp introduces a 100-minute scooter ride package for just $1, in Washington, D.C.”

From a press release:

“Hopp, the electric scooter platform operated by European mobility provider Bolt, is launching a new pricing option for riders in Washington, D.C.

For a limited time, users can purchase a 100-minute ride package for just $1, valid for one week at a time during the month. This offer reduces the effective rate from $3.99 per mile to just $0.01,

making it easier for residents and visitors to move around the city at an extremely low cost.

The new package builds on Hopp’s distance-based pricing model – the first of its kind in the U.S. – which charges riders by the mile rather than by time. This approach supports safer and more flexible travel, allowing users to complete trips at their own pace without the pressure of time-based fees.

“We’re offering more flexibility and better value to people who rely on shared scooters for their everyday travel,” said Dave Thienel, US Operations Manager at Hopp. “By focusing on fair, distance-based pricing, we’re helping riders explore the city comfortably and affordably.”

Washington, D.C. was selected as the first U.S. launch city for Hopp’s expansion, building on the city’s history of micromobility leadership. Hopp currently operates a fleet of 720 Bolt 6 scooters in the District, with plans to expand. Each vehicle includes advanced safety technology, such as:

Impaired riding prevention through an in-app reaction test

Sidewalk detection using onboard AI sensors

Smart parking enforcement via ParkAssist+

Tandem riding alerts to promote individual use and rider safety

Hopp’s “Hopp for All” program also provides qualified low-income residents with up to 30 minutes of free riding time per trip, supporting equitable access to transportation.

As one of two shared scooter operators authorized by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Hopp aims to improve urban mobility while reducing traffic congestion and emissions. The new pricing package is one of several steps being taken to ensure scooter access remains convenient, transparent, and cost-effective.

Riders can access the offer by downloading the Hopp app and selecting the $1 ride package for use within Washington, D.C.”
