“Dear PoPville,
We hope you can call attention to the increasingly compromised infrastructure at Marie Reed Aquatics Center in Adams Morgan where the showers have been barely functional since the spring of this year. Currently there are only four functioning showers of 11: two each in the women’s and men’s changing rooms (of five in each). The shower in the family / independent accessible shower is also not functioning properly (the water is not heated). In the women’s room two showers have hot water, one additional shower has running water but it is cold. Two others do not function at all- last winter one started running continuously, it could not be turned off, and instead of being fixed the water in it and the adjacent shower was turned off completely. In the men’s room, we understand that the water in two showers is functional and the hot water works and in three the water is not functional.
Of note,
none of the three accessible showers is currently fully functional and accessible. In the women’s room, while the accessible shower is functional and running warm, the flexible shower head has been secured to the wall so is not usable for those with limited mobility. In the men’s room we understand that the accessible shower is not functional. The room family shower, which is accessible, runs cold.

The limited infrastructure is inadequate for the volume of swimmers at the pool. Further, the scope of current showers provides no fully accessible options and limited options for families.
Multiple emails and calls to DPR and DPS (which is apparently responsible for the showers in Marie Reed) have gone unanswered. We understand that the staff at the pool have also reported this multiple times and note that the staff at the pool are very diligent, friendly, and generally wonderful.”
