Yesterday we shared the huge news about Barrel House Cafe & Bar coming to the former Foxtrot/Barrel House liquors space in Logan Circle.
Check out more info on what’s coming, and who’s behind it:
“Logan Circle will soon be getting new life in a vacant and iconic landmark building (the one with the eye-catching concrete barrel storefront), formerly occupied by Foxtrot, which closed April 23, 2024.
Barrel House Cafe & Bar (1341 14th St. NW) is coming to this legendary address of Logan Circle in Spring 2025. This new European-style cafe & bar concept is
the brainchild of the team that created the multi award-winning venue, Wunder Garten Beer Garden (wundergartendc.com) in the NoMa neighborhood in 2015. With the team’s nine year experience in pioneering dynamically creative social scenes and original events at Wunder Garten, this new venture, Barrel House Cafe & Bar, promises to capture their same creative style and deliver a ‘next-level’ anchor to Logan Circle’s vibrant and legendary 14th Street commercial corridor.
“This is a totally new concept which we are excited to introduce to the Logan neighborhood and the 14th St. commercial corridor. It’s hard to describe in words as to what this concept is because it is more about an experience or feeling that we plan to deliver to our customers. However, we can say that it takes its cues from world-famous European cafes, coupled with a contemporary vibe and a showcase for the performing arts. It’s more of a place to create memories and friendships, rather than just a space to occupy amongst strangers.”
-Christopher Lynch, co-owner
“Our mission is to create a venue that honors the history of this legendary location and create joyful memories for everyone who enters. The Barrel House legacy is rich in history and we want to continue to tell the that story and at the same time, be the ones to humbly write its next chapter”

About Barrel House
Built in 1925, 1341 14th Street was originally constructed as an auto showroom. Over the next two decades, various dealers occupied the space, including Rolls-Royce. A single-story building with soaring 20-ft ceilings, it showcases remnants of its original exterior. In 1945, Albert Starr designed the building’s distinctive storefront for Sammy’s Barrel House, featuring a massive beer barrel made of tinted aggregate concrete, flanked by narrow plate glass storefronts and topped with a stepped ziggurat neon sign.
The building was the home to Barrel House Liquors through the next decades, survived the 1968 riots, and remained in that location until 2015 when the business was moved next door (1339 14th St. NW). After the pandemic, the building was briefly leased to a gourmet grocer, Foxtrot.
About Wunder Garten
Inspired by the Bavarian beer gardens made famous in Germany, Wunder Garten opened in 2015, in the fast-developing neighborhood of NoMa, with the goal of providing residents with a fun place to gather with friends and family for ice cold beers, good food, and sunshine. The Best of DC’s ‘Best Bar’ winner in 2021, Wunder Garten, with over 13,000 square feet, is one of DC’s largest beer gardens with multiple bars, lush greenery, cabanas, constant programming and events and entertainment, and a friendly and warm staff that will make you feel welcomed. Wunder Garden also has a philanthropic mission to support our community by donating to our partner non-profit The H3 Project (h3projectdc.org), which directly supports rehabilitation and rehousing for our NoMa unhoused community. To date, Wunder Garten has raised nearly $200,000 to support this mission.”
