Dear PoPville

“Quick but important safety issue that Adams Morgan needs help with”

“Dear PoPville,

This is view looking east towards 18th & Columbia Rd @ heart of AM. Sun Trust building would be to your right.

The car that hit Nina Larson came across 18th & Columbia (towards the picture taker).

The city put up flashing crosswalk signs (which helps).

However,

the right sign (pictured here) is NOT visible to oncoming traffic (where the Larson “death car” came from). Note: Ignore the truck but it doesn’t help either.

Why is the flashing crosswalk sign not visible to FUTURE “death cars”?

1) All three trees on the right side need to be trimmed much HIGHER in summer.

Right crosswalk flashing sign (facing 18th & Columbia Rd intersection) is COMPLETELY blocked from the view of oncoming cars.

In winter, without leaves, the view is partially blocked.

as well…

2) The white metal sign with black letters that says “begin right turn lane & yield to bikes” blocks the crosswalk lights from oncoming driver view. Year round!

Let’s save another young DC person (they walk across the crosswalk NOW while reading their phones).

It isn’t a matter of IF, but is a matter of WHEN, the next “Nina Larson” is killed.

Simple, easy solution:

Trim the trees HIGHER UP & reduce the heighth of the “begin right turn” sign so both don’t block Crosswalk Lights from view of oncoming traffic.”
