I live on a street in Ward 5 with no zone restrictions so random cars showing up is a regular occurrence that the block accepts as city life. But I wanted to mine the community here for thoughts about a vehicle that showed up and has been there for about a month now. It’s registered in Ward 4, about to expire. The damage looks like it was in a serious accident, it was abandoned on our block at 3:00am. But DPW says it doesn’t match the criteria for an abandoned vehicle because it’s not “un-driveable”
— odd thing to say about a car with 3 flats, one of which has a giant chunk taken out where it onviously hit a curb or another car. There’s extensive damage to the rear side panels. It’s otherwise a nice, late model VW sedan with a lot of pickleball equipment and a full backpack in the back, charging cables in the front. So the neighbors are thinking maybe it was stolen and abandoned? Any other avenues anyone can suggest would be helpful – I’m thinking if it’s a person whose car was stolen, I’d love to help them figure out where it went. And if it was a hit and run, seems like someone would like to know where it is.”
