“Hill Family Biking Anniversary Ride & Block Park” is April 27th!

“Dear PoPville,

Hill Family Biking, a group of friends and neighbors that put on monthly family-friendly group bike rides on Capitol Hill started about a year ago and have had thousands of area residents join on rides.

To celebrate, we’re hosting an anniversary ride & block party on April 27th at 4pm and we’d love your help spreading the work about this big event that I’m coining “Open Streets Jr”

Below are some more details about the event

Hill Family Biking turns 1 year old on April 27th! Come celebrate with us on a 4.5 mile ride celebrating the new Potomac Ave and 19th St bike lanes and block party in front of Maury Elementary. All are welcome at the block party whether you participate in the ride or not to enjoy the following:

Music
Face painting
Food trucks
Kid’s biking course (bring your balance bikes!)
Collaborative chalk art by Chalk Riot.
Lots of special guests that have helped make Hill Family Biking a reality.

You can think of the block party as a mini Open Streets with participation from organizations like WABA, Girls in Gear, DC Public Library, Throne Labs (yes we’ll have a working bathroom on site!), goDCgo, Capital Bikeshare and more!

The ride starts in the Maury Elementary Parking Lot on 12th Pl NE at 4pm. The block party starts at 5pm on the 200 block of 13th St.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
