“King DC Launch Party – Come Test Ride Electric Bikes!”

502 23rd Street, NW

From an email:

“The electric vehicle making the biggest impact on people’s mobility and the environment is the electric bike. The world’s 280 million electric bikes (compared to just 20 million electric cars) are cutting global oil demand by about one million barrels a day — four times more than electric cars are displacing. As smaller, lighter vehicles than cars, the production of electric bikes also consumes far fewer resources and produces much less carbon. The lithium needed for one electric Hummer can power 400 electric bikes!

While the Biden Administration and automakers are now pushing towards electric cars, DC is leapfrogging their efforts by offering electric bike rebates to citizens, building out the proper infrastructure, and creating an environment where people don’t need to spend >$10,000 a year on a car (or 2nd car).

This is where King Electric comes into play, who just opened their new Experience Center in Foggy Bottom at 502 23RD ST NW.

While the positive environmental impacts are a major benefit of using electric bikes for transportation, King sees them as the best way to get around DC due to their fun, affordability, and being a cheat code to avoid traffic. Their goal is to be DC’s one stop shop for all things electric bikes and cargo bikes. Most brands are online only and traditional bike shops usually only carry one or two models to choose from. King’s Experience Center allows you to see, touch, feel AND test ride all kinds of electric bikes to find the best fit for you.

Started by veterans of the DC micromobility industry, King has been selling electric bikes and scooters since 2021 via e-commerce, and has served over 3,000 customers. With their new DC Experience Center, they’re creating an environment that removes all the barriers to electric bike ownership. They offer test rides, short and long term rentals, new and used inventory, and on-site maintenance. Additionally, they have financing, insurance, and trade-in options to give additional peace of mind.

Their official Grand Opening is open to the public this coming Thursday, February 15th where they’ll have food, drinks and plenty of bikes to take for a test ride.

More information and RSVP is available here.”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
