February 3rd 2024 – Earliest I can recall

On my walkabout yesterday, spotted lots of crocuses coming up and even some daffodils:

However, here’s some reassuring news from the National Park Service:

“Sometimes mistaken for early flowering cherry blossoms, the Japanese plum trees are usually the first to flower on the National Mall each year. Native to China, they are also called Chinese plum trees or Japanese apricot trees. See them now near the D.C. War Memorial.”
