Chesapeake House, “It was built in 1937 by the Mattingly family, making it a relative late-comer to the declining Reno City community. The Mattinglys operated a store of the first floor and lived upstairs The family sold the building to the United States in 1950. It is expected that Chesapeake House will be restored as part of a planned-unit development agreement with the developers of a mixed-use development project on Wisconsin Avenue.”
“Dear PoPville,
This small brick building in Tenley (right next to the Jackson-Reed tennis courts, at the corner of Belt/41st/Chesapeake) has been vacant and boarded up for as long as I can remember. At least since the mid-90s I think.
A few weeks ago I noticed a bunch of new windows were installed… any idea if there are plans for this space?
I went to school at Murch/Deal/Wilson and always thought it’d be cool if this were a little corner store…maybe my dreams are finally coming true in time for my kids to enjoy. One can hope :)”
From ANC REP John Bender:
“Bottom floor will be visitor’s center for the park, including Reno City history. @TenleytownMS was to occupy the top fl rent-free in exchange for keeping center open after NPS hours for community use. New TMS ED changed mind, but they’re getting another ED. Stay tuned.”
