I posted a sofa for sale on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist (Really nice sofa – still for sale!) And immediately got 3-4 replies from people saying they want it but are at work, traveling, whatever, and will Venmo or Zelle me the money and have their nephew/brother pick it up.
I never reply since I know it is a scam – (who just buys a sofa without seeing it?) – but I can’t figure out what they are after. This is a sofa, (really nice sofa!) not a watch or necklace or something small that you might easily resell after canceling the payment. No one is going to fall for the old cashier’s check overpayment scam, so what
exactly is the scam?”
