Fundraiser for “local restaurateur in Petworth and immigrant who was murdered” during a robbery in Takoma Park

Ronih Murat Pacal via GoFundMe

Meagan writes: “another local restaurateur in Petworth and immigrant was murdered [in Takoma Park] this past week. He was one of the owners of La Villa Pizzeria in Petworth.”

The GoFundMe says:

“It is with heavy hearts that we reach out to you today to share the tragic news of the untimely passing of our dear friend, Ronih Murat Pacal. On December 5th, Ronih’s life was cut short by senseless violence when he fell victim to a robbery.

Ronih leaves behind a devastated family—his loving wife and two young children, aged 4 and 6. At 40 years old, he had so much more life to live, and his sudden departure has left a void that can never be filled.

We are coming together to support Ronih’s family during this incredibly challenging time. Our goal is to raise $30,000 to cover the expenses of his funeral and the necessary arrangements to transfer his body to Igdir (îdir) where his family wishes to lay him to rest.

Ronih was not just a victim; he was a devoted husband and father, a friend who brightened our lives with his kindness and warmth. Now, we have the opportunity to give back to him and his grieving family. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a significant impact.

Let us come together as a community to ease the burden on Ronih’s family during this difficult period. Your support will not only help cover the financial strain but also provide comfort to a family grappling with the sudden loss of their beloved husband, father and brother

Please consider making a donation and share this campaign with your network. Let’s surround the Pacal family with compassion, and the financial support they need to navigate this challenging time.

Thank you for your generosity and kindness.

With heartfelt condolences,
Ronih’s Friends”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
