“What’s odd is there is no farewell announcement”

via Little Wild Things City Farm

“Dear PoPville,

I went to the Dupont Farmers’ Market yesterday, and noticed that Little Wild Things City Farm (microgreens) was missing from its normal spot across from Call Your Mother. Apparently they have ceased operations, quite suddenly

– which is surprising since they had quite a stronghold on the microgreens market in the city. They offered farm shares, ran a ton of events out of their expansive city farm next to Jenk’s Hardware on Bladensburg Rd. NE, and were very visible at farmers’ markets throughout the DMV. Their website appears to no longer be active and they are marked as ‘permanently closed’ on Google Maps. What’s odd is there is no farewell announcement on social media, and their last Instagram post was on 10/8, quite recently.

In it’s prime market location, is now Metro Microgreens, who notified me of the LWT closure. They joined the market in the last year or two, and for those in search of microgreens, they have become a favorite of mine: they are much more affordable than LWT and they sell their greens still rooted in their growing medium (a ‘pallet’ made from corn husks). This means soil is absent from the equation, which all but eliminates the possibility of bacteria growth, mold, or other contaminants.

Sad about LWT, but glad there is still a local vendor providing high-quality, nutritious greens!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
