“DC apartment – two week, 10-story trash crisis – Social order is breaking down”

“Dear PoPville,

My apartment building just got new management (went from Highmark to Greystar) and a few days after Greystar came on, the trash compactor broke. This was on November 3. Since then, the compactor has not been fixed, the trash chutes remain clogged to the top of the building (10 stories), and

the management has sent one vague email about taking “large items” to our loading dock instead. Social order is breaking down and residents are dumping trash in the elevator because there is no clear communication and no indication of when the trash compactor will be fixed.

Of course, this is also a health crisis, as the stench of rotting trash is permeating people’s apartments and I imagine mice, rats, and roaches are having a field day.

Residents have been emailing management with no replies or receiving replies that don’t actually sat anything. We’ve also been making requests for inspection from the Department of Buildings but I’m not sure how fast anyone can respond to those.

We’re at our wits end!”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
