I’m a resident of Columbia Heights and am looking for community recommendations: Our alley backs up to a shared green space at the CoHi green. The new management just posted a “no dogs allowed” sign and claimed that this property – formerly run by an NGO associated with the district government – is now private property.
As such, management is claiming that they have the right to ban pets, restrict open hours to no more than 10 a week, will lock up access to the park and charge for private events (potentially causing noise disturbance to those who back onto the park). This seems…not right.
I’ve reached out to the City council to understand more about the legal status/ownership/oversight. Anything else I can or should do? Recommendations welcome. We want to keep this a friendly community space for all.
