Multiple Armed Robberies in Adams Morgan: “We were standing there helping [victims] call their banks and the same car pulled over AGAIN, and held up our group”

“Dear PoPville,

Wanted to let the community know about a string of robberies that happened last night in Adams Morgan. A group of us were walking up Columbia NW at 2am around Gelmarc towers and saw two guys who had just been held at gunpoint and had their phones and wallets stolen. We were standing there helping them call their banks and the same car pulled over AGAIN, and held up our group.

We started shouting once they had taken our friend’s purse and they drove away. We then called 911 and were on hold for 6 minutes and never picked up. We walked down to Belmont Rd and then found a couple who had seemingly also just been robbed at gunpoint and had their things stolen talking to cops and connected they were all the same people.

I gave them a full license plate but it was a pretty chaotic scene – the police didn’t really know how to manage the chaos and group. Wanted to make the community aware that these people are brazen and really don’t have any fear of repercussions – although we were lucky they ran when we shouted, I wouldn’t recommend it since they didn’t have problems holding a gun to my friend’s chest.”

Update from another reader:

“My friends were robbed Wednesday night in admo, same way. Seems like they’re targeting groups to get more for their effort”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
