“Dear PoPville,
My family decided on take out pizza last night after we finished rugby practice with Washington, DC Youth Rugby. My wife phoned the order in to Pete’s and I drove over to Pete’s to pick it up and drive home. Fairly normal until I arrived at the restaurant and saw a note on the door from the restaurant explaining they now charge 20% for diner eating at Pete’s, and 10% for take out orders. This was their response to Proposition 82.
I’m ok with the 20% charge for diners staying at Pete’s to eat. That’s what I would have tipped anyway.
10% for take out orders is crazy though.
For my inconvenience of driving over to Pete’s (they don’t deliver to my neighborhood), they charged me an extra 10%. It doesn’t end there though. I requested a printed receipt because I wanted to verify the 10% fee, but on reviewing the receipt I found a 99 cent order processing fee, and a 3.5% To-Go Package fee. The T0—Go Package free came out to $2.82. I don’t know for sure, but I highly doubt that two pizza boxes, and one salad container cost Pete’s that much.
With all of these fees, my total for 2 pizzas and 1 salad came to $103.35. An insane amount for what we ordered.”
