From a press release:

“Newly established Lemon Group Hospitality (LGH) is set to open the doors of Purl on the Historic H Street Corridor, putting international and nostalgic twists on American comfort food. Aiming to provide a joyful experience for diners in D.C., Purl offers a blend of South American and Portuguese culinary influences, flavors, and traditions.

Named after a famous 19th-century beverage sold on the streets of London, Purl is located at 644 H Street NE (between 6th and 7th Street NE) and features a cozy, welcoming atmosphere with unexpected pops of color throughout the space. As the brainchild of industry vet and Director of Hospitality Ashlee Jack, Purl’s menu combines classic American dishes with flavorful spices and techniques passed down through multiple generations. The comforting and creative menu integrates a sense of nostalgia that encompasses Jack’s eclectic background, with highlights such as the Purl Classic Burger with a daily fresh blend of Short Rib and Brisket, Cooper Sharp American Cheese, Bacon Served with Housemade Fries; Piri-Piri Chicken with Sweet Potato Mash and Roasted Broccolini; and homemade 90’s Rainbow Sprinkle Cake.

The restaurant will also feature a full bar with a selection of beer and a variety of global wines and playful cocktails curated by Canadian beverage specialists, The Trash Collective. “Purl is such a bright and lively space which immediately transports you to fond childhood memories. To match the energy, I wanted to focus on fun and playful cocktails that lean heavily into popular candy from the 90s and early 2000s,” says Kelsey Ramage of The Trash Collective. To complement the vibrant dishes, Purl’s cocktail menu will lean heavily into bright colors and nostalgic memories, such as the Bitter Fruitopia with Mezcal, Raspberry Syrup, Campari and Lemon Juice, topped with Coconut Foam and Nerds; El Camino Verde with Tequila, Avua Cachacha, Matcha Oat Milk, Grapefruit Juice, BG Reynolds Orgeat; and an after-dinner cocktail the Root Beer Flip with Dewar’s 12YO whisky, Lustau Amontillado Sherry, Root Beer Syrup, Miso Syrup, Heavy Cream, Egg, Lemon Juice, Sarsaparilla and Angostura Bitters and garnished with Root Beer Dum Dums.

The staff behind Purl includes experienced chefs, bartenders and servers who are passionate about providing an exceptional and consistent dining experience. “We’re so thrilled to bring such a fun family restaurant with an elevated vibe to H Street. The neighborhood has seen young professionals mature into young families, and parents don’t have to leave the Northeast D.C area to get a great cocktail and a delicious meal,” says Jack.

Occupying a 1912 two-story townhouse, Purl’s interior is designed with a mix of black and white accents with pops of color and greenery for freshness. The original exposed brick adds historical character to the space, while the arch stairwell and windows provide guests a bright and welcoming vibe.

Purl will be open for happy hour from 4-6 pm on Monday – Friday and daily for dinner from 4pm until midnight.”
