Update: Shooting around 1:30am near U Street – 29 Year Old Killed

A reader reports: “I was woken up at around 1:30 am last night by what sounded like machine gun fire, very rapid, close together shots (could just be automatic weapon). Anyway, caught these pics of our corner as emergency services was pulling up to the 13th and V, 4 blocks from the 3rd district station and 1 block from what everyone knows is an open air drug market.”

From MPD: “The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of V Street NW. The 2000-2100 blocks of 13th Street as well as the 1300 block of V Street NW are currently closed. There is no suspect information at this time. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 202-727-9099.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in the 1300 block of V Street, Northwest.

At approximately 1:50 am, Third District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old Calvin Gray, of District Heights, MD.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”
