“With a Sad Sad Heart we say good bye to Tommy. Hopscotch will not be reopening”

“Dear PoPville,

Not sure if you heard the news, but Tommy Mazzocchi – the owner of Hopscotch Bar and Grill in Bloomingdale, formerly bartender at Maddy’s, Old Ebbit and Clydes Tower Oakes (and many more), passed away very unexpectedly earlier this week. Services information is here, and Hopscotch will not be reopening,

according to posts on Instagram.”

“With a Sad Sad Heart we say good bye to Tommy. An amazing friend and a awesome person to work side by side with. Myself @marvel_vs_theworld, Tommy made bartending at this neighborhood bar the best time of my life. Thank You Tommy.

Unfortunately moving forward Hopscotch will be closing our doors. Thank you Bloomingdale for everything.”

“As I am finishing up last night, alone cleaning up for the last time, I sit down in Tommy’s seat at the upstairs bar realizing that myself @marvel_vs_theworld will never serve another beer combo, dewars, shot of Jameson or a Tommy’s way ever again to my friends I made here at this neighborhood bar.

Sinking in that my friend Tommy will never yell at me again in the kitchen because I asked him if I’m allowed to eat today, lol

All the jokes, heated conversations, birthdays, celebrations, the crying, everything that made this place special will forever be in my heart. Which finally brought a tear to my eye last night.

It’s been 4 years since this place has brought joy to this community.

I never thought I would be here running the place with Tommy, and I am thankful I did. It was the best time of my life in this industry.

Thank you Tommy for creating Hopscotch and thank you for being my friend. (Yes I remembered to turn the oven off Tommy!)”

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
