“it states that marijuana will not be allowed at all in any the building even if the user has a medical prescription”

“Dear PoPville,

On Friday they dropped the attached memo at everyone’s door. To summarize, it states that marijuana will not be allowed at all in any the building even if the user has a medical prescription. I’m wondering if this is happening elsewhere in the city?”

They cite:

“Under federal law, specifically the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), marijuana is still categorized as а Schedule I substance. This means that under federal law, the manufacture, distribution, or possession of marijuana is strictly prohiblted. Because the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is controlled Ьу the federal government, it agrees that the use of marijuana, whether prescribed for medical reasons or not, is а criminal offense and will not Ье protected under the fair housing laws. Therefore, apartment complexes are not required to accommodate the use of marijuana Ьу а tenant who is а current medical marijuana user.

The Property in which your dwelling unit is located, 3200 16th Street NW, Washington DC 20010, follows and complies with federal law regarding use of controlled substances and does, and will continue to prohiblt the possession, use, manufacture, distribution or sale of any controlled substance, including marijuana, or any products of any kind infused with or containing marijuana, or any use of marijuana Ьу the Resident and/ or guests. А violation of this Addendum is а violation of the Resident’s Lease, and in addition may result in enforcement Ьу governmental authorities.”
