“Dear PoPville,
We’ve had solar panels on our roof for several years. In months when we generated more electricity than we used, our bills always had a negative dollar amount and the credit balance could be used to cover the monthly base charges. This meant we usually only had a bill around Dec/Jan/Feb, and $0 bills the rest of the year.
The last few months however I’ve noticed a change.
Now Pepco tracks the excess energy in kWh rather than dollars, and despite having a negative kWh balance we owe the approx. $20 in base charges each month.
It’s not a big deal–we’ll eventually use the kWh credits–but it seems strange (though predictable) that we didn’t receive any communication about the change from Pepco. I can’t find anything about it on their site or news stories (would this have required government approval?). Just curious if anyone knows the scoop.”
