Yesterday in Driving Dangerously, “I heard a scrape, not a crash, and was so stunned I didn’t know what to do.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping you can help me find a witness. Around 2:45 pm yesterday (Wed.), I was stopped at the light on Park Place and Kenyon Street NW. I was in the left lane, next to the southbound bike lane. Very suddenly, 2-3 cars (maybe Kia Souls? Those boxy kind of cars) sped by going through the red light on my right, and another came up behind me and drove over the flexiposts/concrete through the bike lane to do the same. There were no cyclists or others in the lane, thank goodness.

I heard a scrape, not a crash, and was so stunned I didn’t know what to do. As I got out to look at the car, I noticed scratches and scraping. I then saw a police car drive by, and turn right on Kenyon (not following any of the cars, no lights on, etc).

A kind person in front of me, in a blue or green car, opened their door and asked if I was okay, and I said yes, but didn’t think to ask for their info. I was on the way to a vet appointment for my old, possibly sick dog (also in the car with me) and was mostly worried about being late, not processing what just happened.

I called the cops to file a report, even though it’s a little late. But if anyone else witnessed this and can help, could you put them in contact with me?”

Anyone with info can email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

Potomac Harmony is Back! Following a gap year of competing, then virtual rehearsals during the pandemic, followed by the well-earned retirement of our long-term director, a year of a director search, Potomac Harmony hit the regional contest stage in Concord, North Carolina in March for the first time since 2018! It was exhilarating, reaffirming, and rewarding!

The chorus hit all of its goals, the biggest of which was to have fun and sing our best on contest stage — we did both! Because we earned a score over 400 points, our new Director, Allison Lynskey, was awarded the Novice Director award, photo above. Additionally, one of our charter members, Jackie Bottash, was nominated for and honored with the Leadership Excellence award. It was a celebratory weekend!

What’s next? So much! We now look forward to upcoming performances, growing our membership, and expanding our musical product with new arrangements and an education component each week. It’s an exciting time to be part of this ever-growing ensemble!
