Been getting reports of burning (tires? Electrical?) smell from all over the city. Anyone know the origin?
From DC Fire and EMS: “is receiving calls for the smell of smoke in the District. At this time, there is no fire/significant incident. #DCsBravest are working to determine the source of the odor,”
From the National Weather Service: “Are you smelling smoke this afternoon? The smell may be associated with a wildfire in eastern NC. Southerly winds are bringing the smoke northward. Smoke should clear out from west to east this evening with the wind shifting to the northwest.”
From the City Administrator: “Given that residents in DC region are smelling it, it’s possibly coming from North Carolina wildfire.”
Someone mentioned fires in NC. Wind pattern does appear to support that theory. pic.twitter.com/DHYQx5q34O

“it smells very chemically, smoky, and acrid outside on the hill right now. Big fire somewhere?”
“tons of smoke in the air in NE – southern part of Brookland by the RIA metro – any idea what’s happening?? It looks like it’s stuck because of cloud cover and smells horrible.”
“anyone know what’s on fire the Edgewood/Eckington area? Air is super smoggy and it stinks. Can’t see anything obvious from roof deck”
“In Parkview as well! Smells like an electrical fire.”
