“This evening at the Petworth Library there was a targeted attack involving two individuals in which one lost their life. In consideration of DC Public Library staff who were present during this traumatic event, the Petworth Library will remain closed through Sunday, March 5 and will reopen Monday, March 6. Thank you for your understanding.”

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in reference a homicide that occurred on Thursday, March 2, 2023, in the 4200 block of Kansas Avenue, Northwest.

At approximately 7:00 pm, Fourth District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, members located an adult male victim suffering from stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 45-year-old Ali Zarrincalaki of no fixed address.

On Thursday, March 2, 2023, 36-year-old David Howard, of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder while Armed. Detectives’ investigation revealed the suspect and victim were known to each other.”
