“Theft in Petworth Library”

“Dear PoPville,

Friday February 10, 2023 My bag was taken by woman seated next me in library. Why do I know? The woman was found in my apartment caught on camera in my building entering with my keys checking my mailbox and later entering my unit. I arrived 30 minutes later and she bagged my toiletries and gone through my closet bagging clothes.

The night of the theft I was left on steps of the library waiting on the steps of library alone for mpd no keys to apartment my neighbor allow to use her phone to cancel cards and later discovered my cash app was still was active but attempt purchases decline because of password error. Over 10 attempts were made and made numerous calls for police reports.

Security camera that should have capture the theft. Library police never showed up on the scene. Everyone left at closing and I was left with MPD.

I contacted my ward Four councilwoman office and the committee for libraries, recreations and youth Affairs ( Trayon White)

1 Extended hours needs more staff
2. Roving security who monitor
3. designated area to assist library constituents which has changed over the years: houseless, restless youth program not designed to meet their needs.

Almost a week later I have not spoken to detective from MPD.”
