“Issues with DC Library Ordering New Titles”

Update from DCPL: “The DC Public Library is working to secure physical books and make them available to the public in a more timely manner. Thank you for your continued support of the Library.”

“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone noticed recently that the DC Public Library isn’t ordering many newly-released books, including significantly hyped new releases, such as Cormac McCarthy’s two new books?

I have over a dozen books on my holds list that remain “ON ORDER” despite having been out for several months. Many of these titles have well over a hundred holds and were released in August, September and October. Before the pandemic, I would routinely get a notification that a title was available for pickup the day of its public release, which meant they received their copies well in advance of the publication date. Now, they don’t even respond to inquiries about when these titles will actually be ordered, received and available for public loan.

Before the pandemic, DCPL was one of the few city agencies that really seemed to work well and that seems to have completely fallen apart over the last year or two.”
