“Dear PoPville,
I’m a volunteer with the Immigrant and Refugee Outreach Center, and through that process, I’ve met Sultana Amani and her family. The Amanis came to the US in August 2021 after the Taliban took control of Kabul, and are amongst the over 6000 Afghan refugees have been resettled in the DC area in the last year.
Last week, a suicide bomb at a school in Kabul killed more than 50 students, mostly girls, who were studying for college entrance exams. Sultana is trying to raise money for their families via a Go Fund Me, but her limited network makes it hard to find folks who can contribute.
Even $5 and $10 donations would make a big difference.
It is inspiring to watch a young Afghan woman like Sultana embrace gratitude for her life in the US and try to help her fellow Afghans who are left behind in Kabul. Folks can contribute to the Go Fund Me here: https://gofund.me/
