Fundraiser to Benefit Breast Cancer Research this Wednesday at the new Whitlow’s in Shaw

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to share a fundraiser that I’ve organized to raise funds to prevent and cure breast cancer! I was diagnosed in 2019 at just 34 years old and finished treatment in 2020 (RIGHT before Covid hit). Unfortunately, this is all too common – breast cancer is now the most common cancer worldwide, and I’m dedicated to doing what I can to end this terrible disease.During the first year of the fundraiser in 2022, we raised $9,205, and with donation matches, the grand total was $20,440!

I’m hosting an in-person benefit bingo night called “Boobs for Bingo” THIS Wednesday, October 19 at the new Whitlow’s in Shaw. It’s going to be a fun night of bingo with gift card prizes donated by local businesses. Tickets can be purchased here.

I’m also selling plants, candles and raffle tickets – available at www.plantitpink.com! (I currently have 80 plants in my little condo!). Raffles include:

VIP Tour and Coffee Tasting at Compass Coffee
Wine tasting led by a Certified Sommelier for up to 8 people at The Bottle Collection
Private brewery tour, $50 gift card, stemware and apparel at Sapwood Cellars in Columbia, MD
Philips Zoom Whitening at Dupont Dental
“Date Night Package” at Alamo Drafthouse
$100 gift card to the newly opened Chesapeake Crab Shack & Bar

All proceeds will go towards the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.”

The Potomac Roasting Company is a local micro-roaster specializing in artisan coffee. We precision roast high-quality beans sourced from small farms in Latin America and Africa that are owned and operated by women. We will make sure that your coffee is roasted the way you want it and delivered fresh.

Our newest coffee comes from Mbozi, Tanzania. We secured a shipment just before this small batch of delicious beans sold out. In Swahili, Usawa means balance and Kahawa means coffee. The beans are grown on small farms that are part of a cooperative promoting gender equity and market access for women. This is a smooth and balanced coffee that is sure to please.

Join local sketch comedy legends (in our own minds) Brick Penguin for an evening of live, dark, rip-roaring sketch comedy. See D.C.’s longest-running sketch comedy group do what they do best, when they’re not performing across the country in places such as the terrifying Philadelphia, the gooey Chicago, the M&M Store-y New York City, and the crunchy Seattle.

Now, our last show may or may not have mentioned Taylor Swift, and we may have gotten into some trouble from confused Swifties who thought they scored a $15 ticket to a Taylor Swift concert. So, to apologize and clear up any confusion, we’ve decided to dedicate another show to her. We promise she might or might not appear this time.
