Ghostburger opening in former Espita space Monday (8/29)

1250 9th Street, NW

From a press release:

“Josh and Kelly Phillips and the Destination Unknown Restaurants team opened Espita in 2016 as an ode to their love for Mezcal and Oaxacan cuisine. Since opening, Espita has been a leader in Mezcal’s growing popularity on the East Coast and a Mexican staple for Washingtonians. When the group opened Taqueria Las Gemelas and Destino in Union Market District’s La Cosecha in 2021, they realized that their new concepts encompassed everything they loved about Espita and then some. With this realization in mind and after months of trying to find the perfect spot for Ghostburger’s first standalone location, they decided that opening Ghostburger in the place it originally took off was a perfect full circle moment. Ghostburger will officially open on August 29th, 2022, and will be the first standalone location of the growing brand.

The new standalone Ghostburger will feature all of the pop-up’s cult favorite smash burgers and cheesesteaks from Chefs Robert Aikens and Ben Tenner, alongside new recipes that will launch with opening. For drinks, Beverage Director James Simpson is whipping up draft cocktails like their favorite “Ghost Claw,” as well as Ghostburger-branded canned cocktails. The former Espita space will reopen with a full interior and patio revamp, featuring the classic Ghostburger hot pink, neon signage, touches of teal, and black and white design accents all by interior designer Rachel Aikens.”
