“Dear PoPville,
I am renovating my unit in my 1960s condo building and it has asbestos-containing popcorn ceilings with concrete underneath. I am debating whether to hire a company to scrape the texture ceiling and remove the asbestos, or leave the texture ceiling/asbestos in place and hire a company to cover the ceiling with drywall/materials and add recessed lighting.
The estimates I am getting for either option are about the same. Does anyone have experience scraping asbestos-containing popcorn ceilings or covering them and adding overhead lighting? Thoughts on return on investment? Resale value? Health/Safety? Noise blocking difference? Anything else I should consider?”
