“Petitioning for speed bumps on my residential street?”

“Dear PoPville,

There’s been a spike in hit and runs with parked cars on our street the last few months, usually on Friday and Saturday nights (we live a few blocks from U Street). In addition to cars running through stop signs, our block has become a hot spot for street racing.

The reckless driving and racing is becoming too much– causing many sleepless nights concerned for the safety of our vehicles and the community at large. I was wondering if the community had any success in petitioning the city to build speed bumps on residential streets? We all know too well the City’s failure to address speeding on DC streets, I take it convincing the city to build speed bumps is just of an arduous task to undertake. I realize speed bumps are a bandaid to a much larger issue, but it could be a good start to deterring some of crazy driving.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated.”
