Today* in Corgis around Town – We’ve Got a Situation

“Dear PoPville,

My boyfriend is in town with his corgi and we took a bunch of buses around the city doing tourist stuff. We have a specially designed backpack for the corgi which is quite secure and seemed to fit the metro rules for “a carrier that the dog can’t escape from”. All of the bus drivers didn’t bat an eye until the end of the day the driver of the 52 bus wouldn’t let us on.

He said that because the dog’s head was sticking out of the backpack we couldn’t ride. (Of course his head was out… He needs to breathe!)

I have seen many dogs in backpacks on the metro and assumed that “a carrier” didn’t literally mean “a crate”. And insight on the actual meaning of the rules? Has this happened to other dog owners?

*This series features any pets in a backpack/bag/vessel. On metro, or not. Corgi, or not, and often NOT a corgi but the series started with corgis and I can be obstinate…send your finds to [email protected]
