Walking with Long Walks DC – Blooming Murals

This month Sara from Long Walks DC writes:

“In honor of the approaching peak bloom, I wanted to share some of my favorite cherry blossom murals that can be enjoyed all year long or as an addition/alternative to the crowds around the allergy-inducing trees.

My favorite mural in this group is actually on the ground. Across two basketball courts is a giant portrait of MLK Jr. and his “I Have a Dream” quote that includes cherry blossoms, the Washington Monument and shoutouts to DC statehood. Art was done by @Chrispyrate @oheylil and @thehoopbus in 2020. It can be found in Oxon Run Park near Wheeler Rd & Valley Ave SE”

A beautiful portrait featuring cherry blossoms titled “Amanda (Blossom Branch)” was created by @nilsrva in 2018 at Wylie St & 13th St NE

Another great one by @chrispyrate from 2021 featuring his signature cherry blossom florals is at Florida Ave & North Capitol NE

Cherry blossoms adorn an alley door which is directly next to a 2021 mural by @mimithemuralist of RBG, Kamala Harris & Sally Ride 15th St & Duvall Ct SE

Do you know of any other cherry blossom murals in the city? Please share!”

At Generation Hope, we’re dedicated to supporting teen parents in college as they work toward earning their degrees. We are in need of caring child care volunteers for upcoming events on Saturday, October 21st (in Washington, DC), and Saturday, November 4th (in Arlington, VA). Join our growing volunteer community and support us at an event this fall!

At all of our events, we provide free onsite child care for the children of the teen parents we serve, creating a nurturing environment for the kiddos while their parents learn valuable life skills and build community.

If you enjoy working with children and are looking to make an immediate impact in your community, please visit https://www.generationhope.org/volunteer to learn more.
