Snow Update: “anywhere from one to four inches of snow on Saturday”

Ed. Note: In more springlike news, Nats Opening Day is 4:05 PM April 7th vs the Mets!!

Just in from the National Weather Service:

“Winter Weather Advisories have been expanded eastward to include much of the I-95 corridor for Saturday morning. Wind Advisories are also in effect for much of the area. This paired with heavy, wet snowfall could lead to some power outages, especially where heaviest snow falls.”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District Snow Team will initiate a partial deployment beginning Saturday morning, ahead of a possible wintery mix anticipated to begin Saturday afternoon. Crews will be prepared to treat the roads with salt. Operations will begin at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning and run through 10:00 p.m. as the weather shifts from rain to snow. Snowplows will be on standby and deployed if snow accumulates two or more inches.

The National Weather Service prediction calls for anywhere from one to four inches of snow on Saturday, depending on the weather pattern, ending around 8:00 p.m. The temperatures Saturday evening will be in the low to mid 30s, with high winds. The weather is expected to remain dry with increasingly warmer temperatures Sunday through Thursday.

Temperatures tonight are expected to fall towards the upper 30s with wind chill values falling to the low to upper 30s. Precipitation in the form of rain is expected after midnight. The District’s Hypothermia Alert will be activated at 7:00 p.m. Residents are encouraged to call (202) 399-7093 or 311 if they see someone in need of shelter.

As a reminder, residential and commercial property owners are required to clear any snow and ice from their sidewalks within 24 hours following the end of a snow event. Through the Sidewalk Shoveling Exemption Program, qualified residents are exempt from this requirement if they own and live in their own homes (single-family or apartment buildings with no more than three units) and are 65 years old or older and/or living with a disability.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) leads the District Snow Team with support from the District Department of Transportation, Department of General Services, Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, Serve DC, and several other agencies.”
