Thanks to a reader for sending from the Ellington’s (1301 U Street, NW) IG stories:
“I should note this was not announced to residents…
It appears to be a very dishonest use of the AirBnB ordinance the city is now enforcing. Residents are talking about being offered month-to-month renewals at $700 more per month for a 1-BR apartment and over $1,000 for a 2-BR, 2-BA. Meanwhile,
residents are prohibited from ever listing their own apartment as a rental on AirBnB. Seems this ordinance has opened up a major loophole for property managers to pursue higher rents for short-term stays rather than attempt to work with existing tenants on sensible terms.”
