Dear PoPville

“Melting to death in SW DC”

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve lived in the Tiber Island Co-operative in SW DC since 2015. Every fall my south facing corner studio apartment gets to over 91 degrees in the fall. I know that DC requires that buildings transition from A/C to heat around October 15th but this is crazy.

I can’t focus on work and my dog is having trouble too. I’ve sent emails to my building with no recourse for 4 years– they just say to complain to my ANC. Even worse, when I had to rent out my condo last year for the pandemic, my tenet broke the lease because of the heat which was a big financial loss! I’m living here again and I can barely take it.

Is there anything I can do? Is there some kind of legal action that can be taken?”
