“Dear PoPville,
Anyone with experience dealing with this?
We received two notices stating we violated DC’s recycling rules on two separate dates two months apart resulting in two $75 fines. The problem is that apparently, at some point at least a month and a half ago, our recycling can got swapped and ours ended up way down the alley. Since it has been away, folks have been filling it with whatever they like. The citation states that the only way for us to contest it is to appear in person.
As it happens, the trash guys have left our trash and recycling cans (as well as all the neighbors’) at the end of the alley on numerous occasions. On this occasion, they must have absconded with ours but somehow replaced it with another that has no number (thus we never noticed).
Any insight into how to contest this without showing up in person? This is a new level of silliness.”
