“I realized they weren’t the usual run of the mill bad driver”

“Dear PoPville,

I was driving behind a silver Nissan in Adams Morgan yesterday evening around 8pm. In the course of a few minutes, I realized they weren’t the usual run of the mill bad driver. The car drove through every stop sign, almost struck pedestrians in a crosswalk and stopped at red lights, before running them a few seconds later while still red.

I wrote the plate down and looked it up later on DC parking and photo enforcement. 70 unpaid violations, with total fee’s over $6,000. Most of these are for moving violations, and at high speeds of 11-20 MPH over limit. I believe DC police need to see them in the act to have a cause to pursue or to impound the vehicle.

Do your readers recommend any other ways to get DC gov to hold these dangerous drivers accountable, and in this case, revoke their license? It may be more difficult because the car is registered in Virginia. DC’s Vision zero is a lofty goal, but it will never be achieved without accountability. Below is a screenshot of the first 30 citations.”

Ed. Note: NBC Washington recently reported:

“Drivers owe the D.C. government almost a half a billion dollars in unpaid fines, and many of those tickets are decades old.”

Storytelling Night: Immigrants Celebrating Independence and Individuality

Independence permeates every step of the immigrant journey. It may have motivated the move or could be a result of it, but regardless, self-discovery is inextricably tied to the experience.

In this storytelling night, just days after Nigeria’s Independence Day,
